Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday released 55 scholarly volumes in various classical Indian languages, marking a significant step toward strengthening India’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage. The landmark release includes important literary works in Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Odia, and Tamil, along with a special sign language interpretation series of the ancient Tamil text Tirukkural.

Out of the total releases, 41 literary works were developed by the Centres of Excellence for Classical Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, and Odia. In addition, 13 books and a 45-episode sign language interpretation series of Tirukkural were launched by the Central Institute of Classical Tamil. This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to making classical knowledge accessible to wider audiences, including the hearing-impaired community.

Sharing his thoughts on social media platform X, Dharmendra Pradhan said that Indian languages are a powerful unifying force. He reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently emphasized that all Indian languages are national languages. He added that despite repeated attempts in history to weaken them, Indian languages have stood the test of time.

The Union Minister also highlighted the government’s continuous efforts to promote and preserve linguistic diversity. These efforts include adding more languages to the scheduled list, translating classical texts into Indian languages, and encouraging education in mother tongues and regional languages. According to him, these initiatives aim to place Indian languages at the centre of education, research and cultural pride.

Pradhan further stated that India is not only the mother of democracy but also a land of immense linguistic diversity. He stressed that it is the collective responsibility of the nation to preserve its historical, cultural, and literary wealth and ensure that future generations are aware of this rich heritage.

The release of these scholarly volumes in Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Odia, Tamil, and sign language is part of a broader national mission to revive classical studies, support academic research, and promote India’s ancient knowledge systems. This major initiative is expected to boost cultural awareness, strengthen multilingual education, and reaffirm India’s identity as a civilization rooted deeply in language, literature, and learning.
