Odisha Plans Region-Wise Industrial Growth to Generate Employment, Attract Investments and Strengthen State Economy
Odisha is preparing a region-wise industrial development strategy aimed at accelerating project implementation, promoting balanced growth and creating employment opportunities across the state. The approach moves beyond investment announcements by focusing on the timely conversion of proposals into operational projects.
The state plans to develop industries according to the economic strengths and resources of different regions. Western Odisha is expected to emerge as a major hub for food processing and textiles, while coastal areas near ports will focus on chemical and petrochemical industries. Mineral-rich districts, including Jharsuguda and Sundargarh, will continue to expand their metal, aluminium and power sectors.
The strategy will prioritise faster land allotments, streamlined approvals and improved coordination among government departments. Digital integration through the GO SWIFT portal is expected to reduce procedural delays and help industrial projects begin production within shorter timelines.
Odisha is also promoting emerging sectors such as semiconductors, pharmaceuticals and Global Capability Centres, along with textiles, through dedicated policies and specialised industrial clusters. The initiative will encourage the development of stronger MSME networks around large anchor industries.
By 2029, the state expects wider industrialisation across its districts, increased investment activity and greater employment opportunities, particularly for women and skilled youth. The region-focused approach is expected to build a more connected, inclusive and economically resilient Odisha.
