The Odisha Government convened a high-level meeting at the State Guest House on Tuesday to discuss measures for ensuring that every portrayal of Shree Jagannath respects the deity’s sanctity, sacred traditions and spiritual significance.

The meeting followed the Supreme Court’s July 29 directive concerning an animated film based on Shree Jagannath. The discussions focused on addressing the cultural and religious sensitivity surrounding the portrayal while exploring appropriate ways to promote Jagannath culture among wider audiences.

The meeting was attended by Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Advocate General Pitambar Acharya, Chief Secretary Anu Garg and Shree Jagannath Temple Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee.

The participants emphasised the need to ensure that creative representations remain consistent with the traditions of Shree Jagannath and honour the faith and sentiments of millions of devotees. The issue has generated strong reactions among devotees, underlining the importance of handling such portrayals with sensitivity and respect.

The matter is scheduled to be heard by the Odisha High Court on Wednesday. Expressing optimism, the Gajapati Maharaja said he expects a balanced and respectful resolution that protects the spiritual values associated with Shree Jagannath while supporting the responsible promotion of Jagannath culture.
