School Children Screened for Eye Health in Odisha’s Paradip on World Sight Day

In a commendable step towards promoting eye health among children, AM/NS Ports organised a special eye check-up camp at Lockpada Upper Primary School in Paradip to mark World Sight Day. The initiative was conducted under the company’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, Project Aarogya, which focuses on improving community health and well-being. More than 90 students, along with teachers and school staff, participated in the screening camp conducted by optometrists Dr. Soumya Sucharita and Ankita Rout from JPM Rotary Eye Hospital. During the check-up, several children were found to have minor vision issues and were advised to use corrective eyeglasses, which will be provided free of cost by the Vision Centre of AM/NS Ports in Paradip.
The doctors also used the opportunity to educate the students on the importance of maintaining good eye health and adopting preventive measures to avoid vision problems. The initiative was held under the guidance of headmaster Kanhu Charan Behera, with active support from teachers Sumitra Panigrahi, Yosobanti Das, and Minarva Sahoo, ensuring smooth coordination and participation of the students.
Aligned with this year’s global theme, “Love Your Eyes”, the event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of eye care and regular vision check-ups, especially among school-going children. AM/NS Ports, through its Vision Centre, has already provided eye screening to more than one lakh people and facilitated over 3,500 free cataract surgeries in association with JPM Rotary Eye Hospital. This initiative reflects the company’s continued commitment to ensuring accessible healthcare, promoting preventive health practices, and contributing to the holistic well-being of the community in and around Paradip.
