Sahitya Akademi Honour For Two Authors From Odisha

In a proud moment for Odisha’s literary community, two Odia writers have been selected for the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Awards 2025, under the Yuva Puraskar and Bal Sahitya Puraskar categories, awarded by India’s National Academy of Letters, the Kendra Sahitya Akademi.
Subrat Senapati has been chosen for the Yuva Puraskar 2025 for his critically acclaimed Odia short story collection titled ‘Kadambana’. The award recognises his fresh literary voice, narrative depth, and storytelling craft that resonates strongly with the contemporary youth. Kadambana, a collection of short stories, explores human relationships, emotional conflicts, and socio-cultural dimensions with maturity and insight, reflecting the growing evolution of young Odia literature.
In the category of Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2025, Rajkishore Padhi has been honoured for his children's book titled ‘Kete Phula Phutichhi’. Aimed at young readers, this book celebrates imagination, nature, values, and storytelling in a way that is both entertaining and educational. Padhi’s contribution stands out for its simplicity, lyrical beauty, and deep cultural relevance, which together enrich the landscape of Odia children’s literature.
Both awardees will receive an engraved copper plaque and a cash prize of ₹50,000 at a formal felicitation ceremony to be hosted later by the Sahitya Akademi. These awards are part of the Akademi’s commitment to encouraging creative excellence across Indian languages and age groups.
The Yuva Puraskar, instituted in 2011, is given annually to authors aged 35 or below for outstanding works in any of the 24 recognized Indian languages, including Odia. It aims to nurture and highlight emerging literary talent in the country. The Bal Sahitya Puraskar, also instituted in 2010, honours writers who have made significant contributions to children’s literature, thereby inspiring young minds through culturally rooted storytelling.
This recognition highlights the vibrant and evolving nature of Odia literature, especially among younger authors who are making their mark on the national stage. It also underlines the efforts of Sahitya Akademi in promoting literary diversity and supporting creative talent from regional languages like Odia.
