Odisha’s Preetismita & Tikki To Represent India In Weightlifting At Asian Youth Games 2025

Odisha continues to shine on the international sports stage as two teenage weightlifters from the state, Preetismita Bhoi and Tikki Mohini Mallik, have earned the honour of representing India at the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain. Their selection marks another moment of pride for Odisha’s growing legacy in youth sports, particularly in disciplines that demand immense strength, discipline and mental resilience. At just 16, Preetismita has already emerged as a rising star in Indian weightlifting. She grabbed national attention after clinching a gold medal with three meet records in the 63 kg category at the Commonwealth Championship held in Ahmedabad two months ago. Her remarkable consistency, technical finesse and competitive maturity have made her one of the most promising young lifters in the country. Meanwhile, Tikki Mohini Mallik, though relatively new on the big stage, has shown great potential. She secured a fifth place finish in the same 63 kg category, displaying both grit and capability to perform under pressure. Her maiden international exposure at the Asian Youth Games is expected to boost her confidence and help her gain invaluable experience at the continental level. The Asian Youth Games began on October 19, and the weightlifting events are scheduled from October 26 to 30, during which 32 gold medals will be at stake. As India hopes for a strong medal tally, the inclusion of the two Odisha athletes adds momentum to the country’s campaign. Odisha has already opened its medal account at the Games with Priyanka Pradhan playing a key role in India’s gold-winning performance in girls’ kabaddi, further reinforcing the state’s growing significance in youth sports development. The achievements of athletes like Preetismita and Tikki not only highlight the sporting talent emerging from Odisha but also reflect the impact of structured training support, grassroots sports development and increasing participation of young girls in competitive disciplines. Their journey to the Asian Youth Games stands as an inspiration for budding athletes across the country and showcases the rising power of Odisha in India’s youth sports ecosystem.
