National Artistic Gymnastics Championship Begins In Bhubaneswar With Top Indian Talent Competing For Selection

The National Junior and Senior Artistic Gymnastics Championships have officially begun at the Gymnastics Centre inside the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, marking one of the most significant gymnastics events in India. The prestigious championship kicked off on Saturday and has brought together some of the finest gymnasts from across the nation, showcasing exceptional talent, discipline, and athletic excellence.

The competition has started with men’s events, which will be held over the first four days, culminating in the finals and closing ceremony scheduled for April 28. Following this, the women’s events will take place from April 29 to May 3, ensuring a comprehensive display of artistic gymnastics across both categories.

Approximately 350 male gymnasts from different states and regions are participating in the championship, competing for top honours in what is considered the biggest gymnastics tournament in the country. The athletes will demonstrate their skills across six major artistic gymnastics disciplines, including Floor Exercise, Vault also known as Table Horse, Rings, Parallel Bars, Pommel Horse, and Horizontal Bar. Competitions are being conducted in both team events and individual all around categories, adding to the intensity and competitiveness of the championship.

The grand opening ceremony witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests and officials from the sports fraternity. Among those उपस्थित were Director of Sports Vijay Yeddula, Additional Secretary of the Department of Sports and Youth Services B K Swain, and Technical Committee Member of World Gymnastics Steve Butcher. Also present were Ashok Sahoo, Secretary of the Odisha Gymnastics Association, and Samir Mohanty, President of the Odisha Olympic Association, along with several other dignitaries.

This championship holds immense importance for Indian gymnastics, as performances here will play a crucial role in the selection of athletes for upcoming international events, particularly the Asian Championships. Selectors will be closely monitoring the performances to identify top talent capable of representing India on the global stage.

The event is being organized by the Odisha Gymnastics Association in collaboration with the Gymnastics Federation of India, with strong support from the Odisha government’s Department of Sports and Youth Services. The successful hosting of this championship further reinforces Odisha’s growing reputation as a major hub for national and international sporting events.

With high stakes, national recognition, and international selection opportunities on the line, the National Artistic Gymnastics Championships promise an exciting and competitive platform for India’s emerging and elite gymnasts to shine.
