Jindal Steel and Power Doubles Angul Plant Capacity to 12 MTPA, Becomes Odisha’s Largest Steel Facility

In a significant boost to India’s steel sector, Jindal Steel and Power has successfully doubled the crude steel capacity of its integrated steel complex in Angul, establishing it as the largest single-location steel manufacturing facility in Odisha. The expansion adds 6 million tonnes per annum to the existing capacity and increases the total output at the Angul plant from 6 MTPA to an impressive 12 MTPA.

The milestone was achieved with the commissioning of the third Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF 3), alongside the operationalization of BOF 2 and several critical upstream and downstream facilities. These include coke ovens, the CRM complex, and other key infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration and efficient ramp-up of production capacity. The company confirmed that the entire expansion project was completed within the planned schedule, highlighting strong execution capabilities.

With this development, the total crude steel capacity of Jindal Steel now stands at 15.6 MTPA across its operations. This includes the newly expanded 12 MTPA facility at Angul and the existing 3.6 MTPA capacity at its plant in Raigarh. The expansion is expected to significantly enhance production volumes, improve capacity utilization, and contribute to higher revenue growth.

The company also emphasized that the increased scale and integration will help optimize costs, strengthen margins, and improve overall profitability. This strategic expansion aligns with India’s broader vision of industrial growth and self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, further reinforcing the country’s domestic steel manufacturing capabilities.

Overall, the Angul expansion marks a major step in strengthening India’s infrastructure backbone, positioning Jindal Steel as a key contributor to the nation’s economic development and future growth in the steel industry.
