Odisha’s para badminton players have once again brought international recognition to India with a remarkable performance at the Peru Para Badminton International Level 2 Championship, securing one gold and two bronze medals. The success came through the outstanding efforts of Deep Ranjan Bisoyee and Subhrajeet Maharana, who showcased determination and skill against some of the world’s best shuttlers. The star of the tournament for Odisha was Deep Ranjan Bisoyee, who partnered with Indian ace Manoj Sarkar to clinch the gold medal in the Men’s Doubles SL3-SU4 category. In the thrilling final played on Sunday, the Indian pair defeated Diogo Daniel of Portugal and Mathieu Thomas of France with a commanding performance, winning 22-20, 21-11. Their chemistry and dominance on court earned them the top podium finish and added another golden chapter to India’s para badminton success story.
Deep also made his mark in the singles category, earning a bronze medal in Men’s Singles SL4. He reached the semifinals after an impressive run but went down fighting against Brazil’s Rogerio Junior Oliveira. Despite a tough start, losing the first game 4-21, Deep displayed resilience by bouncing back to win the second game 23-21. However, he narrowly lost the decider 15-21, settling for bronze. His determined performance underlined his rising stature in global para badminton.
Adding to the medal tally, Subhrajeet Maharana secured a bronze medal in the Men’s Doubles SL3-SL4 category, partnering with Md Arwaz Ansari. The duo advanced to the semifinals but were stopped by the experienced European pair of Daniel and Thomas, losing 14-21, 13-21. Despite the loss, their effort ensured yet another medal for India and highlighted Odisha’s growing strength in para sports.
