Odisha has started implementing an Intelligent Enforcement Management System (IEMS) on four major highway stretches to strengthen road safety and enable live generation of e-challans.

The technology-based enforcement system will monitor and process violations including overspeeding, triple riding, riding without helmets and wrong-side driving. Each e-challan will carry photographic or video evidence along with details such as vehicle number, date, time, location, speed and applicable traffic rules violated.

The system has been introduced on key stretches including Manguli-Sambalpur, covering parts of Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul and Sambalpur districts, along with Berhampur-Taptapani and Berhampur-Bhanjanagar routes in Ganjam district.

Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur said the initiative aims to make road enforcement more transparent and technology-driven while ensuring compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act and road safety guidelines.
