Determined to seek justice, the young man was asked to present a witness. With no one willing to support him, he prayed to Lord Krishna. Moved by his unwavering devotion, Krishna agreed to testify, but on one condition, the devotee must not look back during their journey.

As they travelled towards Odisha, the Lord silently followed him. But just before reaching their destination, curiosity overpowered faith. The young man turned around, and at that very moment, Lord Krishna transformed into stone, remaining forever at the site where the Sakhigopal Temple stands today.

The name "Sakshi Gopal," meaning "Gopal the Witness," originates from this legend. Today, it continues to symbolize unwavering faith, honesty, and the belief that the divine always stands by the truth.

Dharmapada: The Boy Who Chose Sacrifice for the Konark Sun Temple

According to folklore, the master craftsmen building the magnificent Konark Sun Temple struggled to place the final crowning stone. Despite months of relentless effort, they failed to complete the structure and feared severe punishment from the ruler.

At this critical moment arrived a twelve-year-old boy named Dharmapada, believed to be the son of master architect Bisu Maharana. Blessed with extraordinary knowledge, he carefully examined the structure and successfully solved the problem that had troubled hundreds of experienced artisans.

However, the young boy realized that his achievement might bring humiliation and punishment upon the craftsmen. To protect their honour and lives, Dharmapada is believed to have made the ultimate sacrifice by leaping from the temple.
